10 Words And Phrases You’ll Only Understand If You’re From Washington

Here in the Northwest, we may not have unique accents (that we can hear, at least) and we don't exactly speak a different language of our own - but we may reference these 10 words or phrases from time to time:

1. Blue Friday

A tradition for every Hawks fan to wear our team gear and/or blue clothing on the Friday before a game...or any Friday, really!

2. Rainier

One of our favorite mountains/volcanoes, and also one of our favorite beers!

3. Cascadia

Our beautiful Northwest region, including Oregon and part of Canada.

4. S.L.U.T.

The South Lake Union Trolley in Seattle...what were you thinking? The Monorail as well.

5. "True to the blue."

Our devoted motto for the Mariners.

6. Vancouver

Typically we're not referring to the one in B.C.

7. Overcast

Other states may think they know overcast...but do they?

8. Needle

While other people may first think of needles that prick you in the finger, we imagine Seattle's premier attraction.

9. Evergreen

The vibrant color throughout most of our gorgeous state!

10. 12th Man
