Summer is upon us and you know what that means. It’s time to get out and explore the natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes of the Evergreen State. Of course, we’re quite fortunate to live in a state resplendent with stunning scenery and abundant outdoor activities. In fact, you could fill your entire summer calendar with exciting destinations and never run out of fun places to visit. Take the town of Richland, for example. This lovely hamlet boasts spectacular scenic views and plentiful outdoor recreation, making it an ideal summer day trip in Washington.
When you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of larger cities but still want plenty of recreation options, Richland is the place to be.
Although not technically considered a small town, Richland has a small-town feel with the amenities of a larger urban city. With family-friendly riverside walking trails, parks, and local shopping, Richland has something for everyone.
Sacagawea Heritage Trail loops through the Tri-Cities of Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco. This 23-mile paved trail weaves along the river, offering sweeping views of the mighty Columbia.

This moderately challenging 3.2-mile loop is open year-round and takes just under two hours to complete. Canyon Trail is a popular destination for hiking, trail running, and bird-watching. Although beautiful at any time of the year, the trail is particularly colorful in the spring and early summer when wildflowers bloom. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Explore the Tapteal Water Trail by kayak or paddleboard and enjoy a lazy day drifting along the lower Yakima River. Experience an intimate view of area wildlife, including blue herons, egrets, pelicans, and deer.
Another great thing about Richland is the historic Uptown Shopping Center, established in 1949. Unique boutiques, bookstores, vintage shops, and eateries draw visitors to this retro mall with a cool mid-century modern vibe.
