Guemes Island is a small island in western Skagit County, north of Fidalgo Island and the city of Anacortes. And unless you live in the area, you've probably never heard of it. There's not much to Guemes Island, but it does happen to be home to a general store that's anything but general. If you love good views, great service, cold beverages, and the best clam chowder on the planet, check out the Guemes Island General Store.
To reach the general store, all you'll have to do is hop on the Guemes Island ferry from Anacortes.
This is a fantastic day trip destination for those who call Skagit County home.
The store has everything you need, as well as some things you might not need (but want).
From grocery staples to beer and wine, you'll find it all here.
Browse the shelves and you'll find a fantastic variety of locally made foods and condiments.
This place is truly a local gem.
But the general store isn't just a store... it's a full restaurant.
Most people come here to eat first and shop second.
The menu here is fairly simple, but everything is delicious.
You'll find a lot of seafood, locally grown produce, sandwiches, and hearty entrees available for lunch and dinner.
But if you're a fan of clam chowder, there's nothing else you'll want to order here. It's that good.
Willie's NW Chowder is filled with Salish Sea salmon, pacific cod, clams, veggies, and herbs. You can also add bacon (which is especially delicious).
As the weather warms up, more and more people enjoy their meals on the patio.
In the summer, the general store hosts a concert series, so visiting is especially enticing.
