While Washington State isn’t known for its barbecue, that doesn’t mean we don’t have some awesome places to check out. But sometimes, you’ll need to put in the effort and find these eateries off of the beaten path. That’s the case with Smokey’s Bar-B-Que in Cle Elum, Washington. It may be a bit of a journey to reach this incredible barbecue joint, but once you are there, you’ll be so grateful.
Smokey’s Bar-B-Que is an award-winning barbecue restaurant in South Cle Elum. While this barbecue joint attracts guests from all over, it isn’t just the food that makes this restaurant special.
Smokey’s is located inside the old Milwaukee train depot. This building has been carefully restored to retain much of its charm and you’ll notice the character the minute you walk inside.
And while the building is unique, the food is truly incredible. The menu is packed with a variety of perfectly prepared meats including short ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken, and even seafood like catfish and oysters.
All of the meat is coated in one of Smokey’s award-winning sauces and rubs and then placed in the smoker over the perfect blend of smoking woods. Most of the meats slowly cook for up to 10 hours.
Once the meat has reached perfection, you can pair it with a combination of sides like beans, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread.
You will also find many fun — and a bit unique — dishes on the menu like a barbecue bowl or a porky pig pile.
The porky pig pile is a sandwich that features pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, onion rings, and pineapple bourbon barbecue sauce.
And before you make the journey home, order dessert. There are plenty of options to satisfy any sweet tooth including a 7-layer brownie, bourbon bread pudding, and even homemade pie.
Smokey’s Barbecue in Cle Elum may be a bit off of the beaten path and it may require a little extra effort to visit, but believe us, your taste buds will be thanking you for the adventure.
