Summers in the Pacific Northwest are the envy of the entire country, and there's no denying they're fantastic. However, springtime in Washington is also highly underrated and should never be taken for granted. From our tulip fields to our lively vineyards, everything seems to come alive in the Evergreen State this time of year. Here's where to go to experience the season to the fullest.
1. Chelan
Lake Chelan is one of our top vacation destinations, and it stays perpetually packed all summer long. We highly recommend heading that way in the spring at least once - not only is it a bit quieter and more peaceful, but the wildflowers are blooming in every direction.
2. Leavenworth
There's never a bad time to visit Leavenworth. Our Bavarian village is best known for its lively Oktoberfest and its dazzling holiday lights, but all it takes is one mid-spring visit to realize that this season looks stunning on the little city.
3. Spokane
Have you ever experienced Spokane in the spring? Riverfront Park is always delightful, but don't miss an opportunity to check out Manito Park in May. There are five gardens here and the Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden alone is worth the price of admission.
4. San Juan Island
The San Juan Islands require quite the commitment to reach, no matter what part of Washington you call home. But try taking a trip to Friday Harbor in the spring without falling in love. You'll agree that it's worth the journey.
5. The Skagit Valley
We're extremely thankful that the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is right in our backyard. Taking photos of these enchanting tulip fields is a Washingtonian's rite of passage.
6. Red Mountain
Red Mountain AVA sits in the southeast corner of Washington state near the Tri-Cities, just outside of Benton City. And that's where you'll find some of the best wine on the entire planet, not to mention these beautiful springtime views.
7. Bellingham
And on the opposite corner of the state sits Bellingham, our charming nature lover's college town near the Canadian border. Surrounded by lush evergreens and snow-capped mountains, this city really comes alive in the spring.
How many of these beautiful places will you go to this year? What are some of your favorite destinations to visit during the springtime in Washington? Let us and your fellow travelers know in the comments.
Washington State is a delightful place for a visit regardless of the season. Just make sure you book a stay in a cozy vacation rental or a local hotel. It's so lovely here, you'll never want to go home!
