Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood is known for being delightfully quirky and eccentric. So it should come as no surprise that it's home to one of Washington's most unique spots, a combination of an old-fashioned vinyl library and a classic cocktail bar. And if you love old-fashioned records and a good drink, you'll definitely want to check it out.
Life on Mars opened in June on Pike Street on Capitol Hill.
The opening came after months of anticipation. And with a concept this cool, it's understandable.
Life on Mars is a collaborative effort between four industry locals who are all invested in the music scene.
John Richards hosts KEXP’s popular program John in the Morning, Amy Richards is from Pair Music Collective, Leigh Sims is from Wake Up Productions, a music and arts events company, and Steven Severin co-owns several local music venues.
So... do you shop for vinyl or listen to it while you're here? The answer is both!
Visit the bar from 4 to 7 p.m Monday through Saturday and from open to close on Sunday to pick out some vinyl to play. Just choose from the wall of vinyl or from the featured vinyl for sale, bring it up to the bar, and enjoy.
Quite a bit of the vinyl here is for sale, including some hard-to-find albums.
Of course, you'll find plenty of Seattle bands on the wall, like Nirvana and Soundgarden.
As fun as it is to hear classic vinyl, that's far from the only reason to visit.
Life on Mars also has a full bar with some seriously creative cocktails on the menu.
Hungry? You'll find all kinds of tasty bar food on the menu here, although there's something missing: The meat.
The food is all plant-based, and it's both creative and delicious. Try the Disco Fries, Cauliflower Wings, and waffle sandwiches and see for yourself.
Life on Mars is open daily from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. for guests 21 and over only.
Check the website for their regularly scheduled live music and DJ sets.
Check out Life on Mars on your next trip to Seattle — and if you'd like to stick to the quirky theme, enjoy a meal here as well.
