Everyone knows the Pacific Northwest has some of the best sunsets on the planet. Our West Coast location and abundance of natural scenery ensures that. But what about sunrises? If you're able to wake up early, you may have noticed that the break of dawn in Washington is equally as beautiful. And the next time you visit Lake Chelan, we highly recommend setting your alarm. The sunrises here are truly spectacular.
Lake Chelan is located in north-central Washington, in the absolutely gorgeous Chelan County.
For obvious reasons, this is one of the top vacation destinations for Washingtonians year-round.
The name Chelan is a Salish Indigenous word, "Tsi - Laan," which means Deep Water.
That's certainly an appropriate name. Lake Chelan is the third deepest lake in the United States, and the 26th deepest in the world.
During the day, especially in the summer, you'll find hundreds of Washingtonians on the lakeshore and out in boats, fishing, tubing, and having a fantastic time...
... but early in the mornings, it's quiet and peaceful.
The sunrises over Lake Chelan are like nothing you'll experience anywhere in the state.
As the sun emerges over the horizon, the sky, clouds, and lake all appear to change colors. It almost looks like an oil painting.
Of course, it may be a bit too early to take a swim (brr!), but a lakeside sunrise stroll would be a perfect way to greet the day.
Early morning is also a wonderful time to go fishing, if you so desire. Remember what they say about the early bird.
The next time you visit Chelan, make sure you wake up early every morning that you can.
