If you've ever taken Stevens Pass to Leavenworth or to go hiking in Skykomish, you've driven right by Espresso Chalet. This quirky little coffee hut sits right on the Stevens Pass Highway, and despite its eccentric details, it's easy to miss. But this little spot is definitely worth stopping for... not only for the caffeine but for the absolutely magical views that lie behind it.
The Espresso Chalet is Highway 2’s longest-running espresso stand.
You'll find it at Mile Post 36, just outside of Index.
In typical Pacific Northwest fashion, when you stop, you'll be greeted by a giant Sasquatch.
However, this isn't just any Bigfoot -- it's Harry. Some of the scenes from the beloved 80s film Harry and the Hendersons were filmed right here.
The Espresso Chalet serves all the coffee classics as well as some creative concoctions.
Even if you're not a coffee drinker, you'll find something tasty on the menu, like an Italian soda.
You can also enjoy some tasty cookies, pastries, ice cream, or snacks.
These freshly baked Raspberry Zombie Buttermilk Scones are just as delicious as they look.
But, while the sweet treats are divine and the backstory is fantastic, it's the back deck that will make you glad you stopped.
The views will take your breath away.
The observation deck overlooks the Mt. Index area, and it's unbelievable.
You won't believe you're just steps away from the highway.
While the coffee shop doesn't have an indoor seating area, you're more than welcome to enjoy your coffee on the deck.
And if you're able to pry yourself away, check out the onsite gift shop, which is full of local goodies and information on all there is to do in the area.
Espresso Chalet is open daily from 7:15 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
The next time you're in the area, stop by and check out this little hidden gem.
