The World’s Best Seafood Can Be Found Right Here In Washington
We don’t mean to brag… actually, we do. Washington’s seafood is incredible. Our state is in a prime location for freshly caught fish, crab, fresh clams and oysters, and the majority of our restaurants know just how to prepare it.
Just look at the variety of seafood available to us here:
First, there's Pike Place Market, Seattle's most famous spot for fresh fish.
The fish market is world famous, and you'll find everything from wildcaught local salmon to Alaskan King Crab and halibut steak.
Western Washington also has several excellent small local seafood purveyors, like Taylor Shellfish Farms.
In 1890, the Taylor family started farming shellfish in the Puget Sound. They've created a local legacy, with fresh, sustainable shellfish being sold in several oyster bars and farm stores.
The Bow / Edison area is a mecca for oyster lovers.
Blau Oyster Co. has a 60+ year history of oyster farming, and they have earned an excellent reputation. They're one of several spots in the area to score the best fresh oysters ever.
Their are 5 main oysters you'll meet in Washington: Pacific, Olympia, Kumamoto, European Flat, and Virginica.
Taylor Shellfish Farms raises the only Virginicas in the state.
If you live on the west side of the state, you're spoiled (in the best way) by fresh seafood options.
This is the Seattle Fish Company in West Seattle, an unassuming market and restaurant that serves the best fish and chips, piping hot chowder, and fresh shellfish to-go.
And don't think people in Eastern Washington miss out.
At Milford's Fish House in Spokane, the seafood is fresh, delicious, and abundant. Their menu changes daily.
And at the Deep Sea Deli in Yakima, you'll find a wide array of fresh and frozen seafood.
Washington's biggest claim to seafood fame is probably the geoduck.
The geoduck is a large species of saltwater clam native to the West Coast, mainly found in Washington and B.C. And it makes an excellent chowder.
We’re incredibly lucky to have so many options for seafood here in Washington.
Here’s a list of some of the best seafood restaurants in the state.
