A few years ago, a little food truck opened in Olympia at the corner of 4th and Plum Street. But instead of serving tacos or other common food truck fare, the focus was on the little-known Arepa. These days, Arepa Latin Street Food is more popular than ever, and the term is common knowledge in Western Washington.

Arepas are flat, unleavened patties made from ground corn dough or cooked corn flour.

They can be can be grilled, baked, boiled, or fried, and they're often stuffed with meat and veggies. The cuisine is extremely popular in Venezuela.
Arepa Latin Street Food was opened by Marianne Socorro and her husband, Chef Luis Amengual.

Both of them are from Venezuela, moving to the United States as young adults. First they fell in love with each other (in Orlando), then they fell in love with Washington. Eventually, their food truck was born.
The arepas here are traditionally prepared, and they're delicious.

If you're especially hungry, you can get a side salad, some fries, or even some sweet plantains to go along with it.
