Welcome to one of our state's most beloved treasures: Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve.
Like other wild spaces in the state, one of the prettiest hidden gems in Virginia doesn't have many amenities, so you won't find restrooms or picnic areas here. What you will find is an abundance of natural habitats, wildlife, and landscapes to admire.
It's also important to note that the parking lot is small, only accommodating 8 vehicles. So be sure to arrive early and if no spots are available, try again later.
Savage Neck Dunes is made up of rugged dunes, Chesapeake Bay beachfront, maritime forests, and incredible songbird habitats.
You can spend time simply enjoying the beach or opt for any of the three trails within this Virginia hidden gem. Each is an interpretive trail and offers a unique perspective of the region.
While you're there, be sure to take note of the 50-foot dunes, which are effectively some of the tallest points on the Eastern Shore!
No matter how long you're here, you won't help but fall in love with this beautiful space.
And don't forget to take everything you've brought with you. It's vital to keep this beautiful beach preserved!
