Hike To An Emerald Lagoon On The Bird Knob Trail In Virginia

Bird Knob Loop is located near New Market, Virginia, and it leads to a beautiful emerald lagoon, aptly named Emerald Pond. Here’s more on this scenic trail that belongs on your outdoor itinerary.
Emerald Pond is tucked away in Jefferson National Forest just waiting to be discovered. This lovely, spring-fed swimming hole makes the perfect day trip destination, whether you're a hiker, swimmer, or fishing enthusiast.
The first two miles of the trail are the most difficult, with a fairly intense incline the entire way. Be sure to take your time and pack plenty of water — you'll need it!
Fortunately, the beautiful scenery along the way will reward your effort. Just look at this breathtaking view of Harrisonburg Valley, located about 1.5 miles into the hike!
Eventually, you'll reach the crown jewel of the hiking loop: Emerald Pond. This water has exceptional clarity, which lends it a distinctive emerald hue.
