There’s No Attraction In The World Quite Like This One In Vermont
The Vermont Country store has been offering top quality goods since 1947, and is still run by the same family who are now 8th generation Vermonters! You’ll love browsing the stores but, if you can’t make it here, they sell it all and more
online making it a one stop shop for all your holiday needs. With 100% satisfaction guaranteed and a customer bill of rights in place, this is the kind of place you’ll never want to leave. And we can’t really blame you!
The Vermont Country Store is more than just a store… It’s an experience.
It is well known as a place where you can find unique items, everyday needs, a family business, where to find delicious foods and a wonderful selection of Vermont made products.
We're not the only ones who love visits to the Vermont Country Store...
Visits and press such as Martha Stewart to CBS have come to the store - and the Orton Brothers went teach Martha a thing or two in the kitchen making Maple Mountain Crunch Cake on the Martha Stewart Show!
Some may say it’s a museum.
And the best part is that all the exhibits are for sale!
Now that's a lot of liquid gold!
From hard to find items, old fashioned games, Vermont products, clothing, candy and good old fashioned customer service, you’ll find it here.
You'll always be greeted with a smile.
In fact, where else will you find “The Vermont Country Store 100% Guarantee?”
In the words of proprietor Lyman Orton… “My commitment to finding you practical, hard to find merchandise and to superior customer service remains absolutely unshakable. Everything you see in our catalogs, in our on-line store, and in our retail stores is 100% guaranteed to work like we say it will.
If you don't find this so, or are dissatisfied for any reason at all, you can return or exchange your product with no hassles or fuss.
We've done business in this straight forward way ever since 1946.
Lyman Orton, Prop.”
The Vermont Country Store was founded by Vrest and Mildred Ellen Orton in 1946 as the first restored rural country store in the nation in Weston, Vermont.

Their origins lie in the Orton family’s long Vermont history.
In 1897, Gardner Lyman Orton, the 8th generation of Ortons in the United States, opened a general store with his father-in-law Melvin Teachout in Calais, Vermont. Gardner's wife Leila gave birth to their eldest son Vrest that same year. Pictured is the interior of the store in 1946.
The Vermont Country Store is still operated by the Orton family today.

The Vermont Country Store in Weston store has the distinction of being America’s first restored and fully operational country store and has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Along with locals and passerby's, this is a popular stop for bus tours.
In fact, the tours can spend several hours looking at all the products and displays.
We told you - it's like a museum!
Visitors know they never have to leave hungry.
Enjoy over two dozen mouthwatering samples including cookies, fudge, cheese, crackers, jams and more.
Mildred’s Market is tucked into one end of the Rockingham store and is open and ready to satisfy your appetite for fresh Vermont foods.
Colonial Apple Pie from Mildred’s Market.
At 4 pounds of mouthwatering deliciousness, it will rival the turkey for top billing at many Thanksgiving dinners.
You can pass the day at one (or both!) of their locations.
Find them at 657 Main Street, Weston and 1292 Rockingham Road in Rockingham.
We sure do love our
VT general stores here in the Green Mountain State!
