Animal actors and their trainers are incredible. If you have ever seen these creatures in real life, you would be amazed at their training. Bart the Bear is one animal actor who has certainly made an impression on and off the screen. However, what many people don’t know is that this famous bear actor passed away peacefully at his home in Utah and was buried in our great state.
If you have seen movies such as “The Bear,” “White Fang,” “Legends of the Fall,” and “The Edge,” you’ve seen Bart the Bear in all his glory. This male Kodiak bear was a well-known animal actor who made several movie appearances. His first onscreen appearance was in the film “Windwalker” in 1981.
Bart the Bear traveled all over the world filming movies and television shows. He even took the stage at the 1998 Academy Awards. He became spokesbear for various organizations including the ambassador of Vital Ground, a foundation that protects and restores grizzly bears.
While Bart lived a life in the spotlight, he later faced challenges. In 1998, he was diagnosed with cancer and underwent multiple surgeries. Unfortunately, the cancer returned and he peacefully passed on May 10, 2000. Bart the Bear was 23 years old.
Bart the Bear certainly lived an incredible life and his legacy will live on. We are proud that this incredible actor can rest peacefully in the Beehive State.
