Are you ready for an adventure to a remote part of the state that offers excellent outdoor recreation and stunning beauty? If so, you’ll want to head to the tiny town of Mexican Hat. It’s in the middle of nowhere, but it’s well worth a visit.
Mexican Hat is in a very remote part of the Beehive State, near the Four Corners area. While it's far off the beaten path, this little town is well worth a visit.
This tiny town got its name because of the distinctive rock formation that sits on a bluff overhead. Some say that it looks like a Mexican sombrero. While this town has a population of fewer than 100 people, you'll find plenty to see and do here.
The Valley of the Gods is a remote, wild place that's full of incredible beauty and awe-inspiring rock formations. It's just 30 minutes north of town, and if you have a high-clearance vehicle, you might want to explore along the 17-mile-long road that runs through the valley.
For a gorgeous, white-knuckle scenic drive, take Moki Dugway - a dirt and gravel road that's carved right into the side of Cedar Mesa. We wrote about this scary drive recently, and you can read our feature article here.
Goosenecks State Park is just a few miles from Mexican Hat, in Blanding. The small park is perched right on the edge of a 1,000-foot cliff overlooking the San Juan River. You can camp overnight at the park for just $10/night.
Ancient Pueblo People once lived in this part of the Beehive State, and you can find some remarkable ruins in this area. Take the Comb Ridge trail near Blanding to see many dwellings.
