The incredible peace and quiet you'll find in this scenic basin with the soundtrack of a rushing waterfall surrounding you like a cozy blanket is such a zen feeling. The hike to reach the falls is only about 1.4 miles roundtrip and not that difficult, but the crowds can be intense at the peak of summer. It's best if you can make the hike early before the crowds arrive. If you do, you can capture a moment of bliss all to yourself.

Of course, the opposite end of the day is also amazing when the sun sets and each twist of the road reveals stunning golden rays as they turn to red-orange over the Ouachita National Forest.

It is a reminder that nature can turn even something as horrid as a garbage dump into something beautiful given enough time. In the mid-1900s, this area was a garbage dump for Fort Bragg residents. In 1967, it was cleaned up, leaving behind this fascinating gem filled with time-worn beach glass. You'll find the beach within MacKerricher State Park in Mendocino County.
- Bradbury Mountain State Park, Maine: Maine is one of our favorite states to visit in June when winter is back in the rearview mirror.
