The Middle-Of-Nowhere General Store With Some Of The Best Sandwiches In Wyoming
Dayton Mercantile is a historic general store in Wyoming offering vintage memorabilia, delicious treats, and a charming old-fashioned experience.
Dayton Mercantile is an excellent place to visit if you're craving an old-fashioned day trip. Dayton is a tiny town in Sheridan County in the foothills of the Bighorns and south of Ranchester. It's a drive to get there from just about anywhere — but a scenic one — and the destination could not be any sweeter. Let's take a look at this small-town general store.
The historic Dayton Mercantile got its start in 1882 as a small general store in a tiny town on the Wyoming frontier.
In 1901, the building expanded by adding a second-floor ballroom called Crogan's Hall.
Over the years, a lot has changed about the Dayton Mercantile, but one thing remains true.
It's been a place of community gathering for more than a century.
Pull up a chair and take a look around at this historical building in the center of this lovely little town.
You can also buy these types of chairs along with other interesting home decor.
And when you go inside, the vintage memorabilia revisits places you've long forgotten.
From antique collectibles to souvenirs and gifts, it's difficult to leave here without something for you or a friend. The buckets of vintage candy are so much fun to explore.
Try one of the delicious toasted sandwiches, a smoothie, or a blended iced coffee at this small-town general store.
Of course, one of the main reasons people visit is for the delicious ice cream.
The old-fashioned style of serving scoops blends perfectly with modern toppings and innovative creations. We are always interested in a sweet banana split. And you'll love the milkshakes and malts which pair greatly with anything on the menu.
They especially go well with some hand-dipped chocolates and other sweet treats.
How about some kettle corn to eat on your way home?
You're bound to find just about anything at one of the best general stores in Wyoming.
