The Small Town In Wyoming That’s One Of The Coolest In The U.S.

Meeteetse, a small town in Wyoming, is known for its rich history, unique attractions, and wildlife recovery programs.

We all know that Wyoming stands out in many ways from the other 49 states but did you know that we hold one more distinction? We are home to one of the coolest small towns in the United States. If you don't believe me, just ask the residents of this tiny town in northwestern Wyoming.

The little town of Meeteetse is located in the northwestern portion of the state in Park County.

Meeteetse packs a big punch for a town that is less than 1 square mile and is home to as few as 300 residents!

The town's name was derived from the Native American term meaning "meeting place." And what better place to meet up than on the town's main street?

The town's motto "Where Chiefs Meet" set the stage a long time ago for something big happening here.

Speaking of big, watch out for the oversized wildlife hanging out on the street corners.

Meeteetse is one of the oldest settlements in the Big Horn Basin dating all the way back to the late 1870s.

Located along the Grey Bull River, the town was a ranching community that started out with a post office and school house. Pictured is Par Ranch.

Perched on a corner lot on Park Avenue is the First Bank of Meeteetse which dates back to 1901.

The building remained a bank until 1975 at which time it transformed into a museum. The interior still features the original teller's cage and vault.

The Cowboy Bar and Outlaw Cafe, located on State Street, dates back to 1893 and features a beautiful antique back bar.

This building was the residence of Butch Cassidy and was visited by many other outlaws. It's home to dozens of bullet holes - 56 to be exact!

Meeteetse Mercantile was established around 1906 and is one of the most interesting old buildings in the state. It served as a company store for the Pitchfork Ranch.

Believe it or not, the Meeteetse Chocolatier, located along the town's main street, is known to those from all around the world.

Tim Kellogg, a saddle bronc rider, formed the business years ago to make enough money to buy a new saddle. His incredible truffles are absolutely amazing.

Black-footed ferrets have also put Meeteetse on the map. In 1979, black-footed ferrets were thought to be extinct until a ranch dog in Meeteetse brought a dead ferret to his owners in 1981!

Good dog! Wildlife officials were notified and Meeteetse became the location for the Black-footed Ferret recovery program.
