9 Picture Perfect Fall Day Trips To Take In Wyoming

Wyoming offers so much all year long, and autumn is no exception. Even when the chillier weather sets in taking camping and some outdoor sports off the table, there are other activities to take their place. There are pumpkin patches to go picking in, corn mazes to explore, fun festivals, farmers markets, and don't forget the dazzling colorful fall foliage. You'll want to take in as much as you can, and we recommend taking a day trip to these 9 picture-perfect fall locations in Wyoming that allow you to do just that.

1. Clark, Wyoming

Just a bit north of Cody, you'll find the cozy rural community of Clark. Because the area is largely agricultural, Clark offers a handful of quintessential fall activities such as the pumpkin patch and corn maze at Gallagher's Farm. Plus, you'll get an eyeful of the magnificent fall colors along the way.

2. Casper, Wyoming

You may want to make more than a day of it when you visit Casper in the fall. There are so many autumn events you might have to stay on through Thanksgiving. The city and miles around it are ablaze with fall foliage, and there is a corn maze, farmers market, a pumpkin patch, the Fremont Canyon Jam music festival, cemetery tours, and a haunted tour of Fort Caspar.

3. Cheyenne, Wyoming

The state capital is a splendid destination for a fall day trip. There's always something going on September through November to satisfy your autumn impulses including a pumpkin patch to peruse, an epic Oktoberfest, bountiful harvest at the farmers market, a haunted house adventure, and art walks on the second Thursday of each month.

4. Lingle, Wyoming

There are only a handful of corn mazes in Wyoming, and the small town of Lingle near the Nebraska/Wyoming border happens to be the home of one of the most downright epic mazes in the state. Each year, Ellis' Harvest Home clips their corn crops into a whimsical maze and invites the public in for loads of fall fun. There is also a pumpkin patch, and the town itself is filled with trees turning all sorts of shades of fall.

5. Saratoga, Wyoming

Saratoga is especially beautiful in autumn. It's well worth the trip just to take in the leaves changing color, but there are other activities to fill a day or more including Halloween haunted walks, farmers markets, and an Oktoberfest at the local brewery. Plus, the free-to-the-public hot pool is a special treat you can indulge in to soak away the autumn chill.

6. Sheridan, Wyoming

With the farmers market, art exhibits, and the stunning foliage display, a day trip to Sheridan in the fall is well worth the time. Be sure to take the 15-minute drive out to Koltiska's Pumpkin Patch for even more fall-time fun including pumpkin picking, a petting zoo, and hayrides.

7. Alta, Wyoming

The trees surrounding Alta blanket the area with rich colors of fall from the deep forest green of the pines to the contrasting bright red, orange, and yellow of the aspens. Though it's a small town, it's difficult to just drive through - unless it's to continue on about 7 miles up Ski Hill Road to Grand Targhee Ski Resort. There won't be enough snow there (if any) to ski just yet, but the resort is a beautiful place to enjoy a fall hike or participate in many fall events including an epic Oktoberfest.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

The fall beauty in and around Jackson goes on for miles and miles starting with the town square which is filled with trees sporting spectacular seasonal colors. Plus, Jackson is just a few minutes' drive from two major national parks that are also stunning to behold in autumn. Be sure to take a ghost tour of historic Jackson while you're in town, and if you happen to miss the fall arts festival, no worries. There are numerous galleries in the city displaying a collectively large assemblage of captivating artwork for you to view anytime.

9. Riverton, Wyoming

Sometimes the smallest Wyoming communities make the best fall day trip destinations, and Riverton is the perfect example. You'll get a dose of the essential fall foliage along with fun fall activities like the corn maze and pumpkin patch at SonHarvest Seasons, plus a hayride and fall harvest market.
