Most folks don't think of Wisconsin as wine country, but there are actually four different wine-growing regions here in the Dairy State. No matter where you're headed in Wisconsin, you can find amazing wine being made from locally grown grapes and other fruits.
Tucked way out west, about an hour past Eau Claire and 45 minutes from the Twin Cities, Belle Vinez is a family vineyard in River Falls. Every generational, family vineyard has to start somewhere and the Zimmerman family is working on creating a true Tuscan-style wine experience in western Wisconsin. The first thing you'll notice about Belle Vinez is how gorgeous the setting is. It's a Tuscan-style villa surrounded by some rolling hills and tons of vines.
The vast patio invites you to linger with wine and enjoy the view and atmosphere.
Try a flight of the different wines offered and make sure you put in an order from the brick oven. The pizzas have people coming back again and again and are the perfect complement to a glass of wine on the patio.
Belle Vinez's hours vary by season.
From May 1st through November 30th, Belle Vinez is open Thursdays from 4 p.m. -- 9 p.m. and Friday - Sunday from 11 a.m. -- 9 p.m. In the winter, from December 1st through April 30th, they are open Fridays from 4 p.m. -- 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. -- 9 p.m.
If you're planning to be there in the evening and enjoy the amazing food from the brick oven, make sure you make a reservation.
No matter the season, you'll be in awe of your surroundings at Belle Vinez.
The changing leaves in the fall lend a whole new color palette to the vineyard.
In the winter, there's a fragile beauty to the empty, hardy vines as they withstand whatever Wisconsin has in store for them.
Then the grapes start to grow.
And even the locals like to come check them out in spring.
You'll have a hard time remembering you're in Wisconsin, much less this close to the border. The vineyard really is picture perfect and the views will leave you speechless.
Make sure you stick around for sunset to see the shadows and colors of the vines as the sky changes.
