Perched 3,520 feet high in the mountains of West Virginia's Tucker County is a little town by the name of Davis.

Population (in 2010): 660. That's down from the town's recorded population peak of 2,615 residents in 1910, by the way.

Historically, Davis was a lumber town. It was progressive for its day, with electric streetlights just 13 years after the invention of the electric light. Leather and coal also did big business here.

Geographically, Davis is the highest incorporated town in the Mountain State, and as such, overlooks some of the most beautiful terrain in all of Appalachia. Have you heard of Blackwater Falls? That's near Davis. Have you heard of Canaan Valley? That's Davis again.

It's refreshingly cool in the summer and bitterly cold and snowy and beautiful in the winter. It's quiet. It's peaceful. It's backcountry.

There are no stoplights for miles around.
