Hop In Your Car And Take The Mount Baker Scenic Byway For An Incredible 57-Mile Drive In Washington

The Mount Baker Scenic Byway in Washington offers a picturesque 57-mile drive with numerous outdoor activities and scenic stops.

Washington has some of the most scenic drives in the entire country. And after all these "unprecedented times," we certainly appreciate them a lot more. When the weather warms up, there's one route, in particular, we love to recommend: The Mount Baker Scenic Byway. Although it's only a 57-mile drive, you'll want to allow plenty of time to stop and explore.

The Mount Baker Scenic Byway runs northeast from Bellingham to Artist Point, and it's the only road to reach the Mount Baker Ski Area.

But you certainly don't have to be a skier to enjoy this route. In fact, it's much easier to navigate in the summertime.

During the summer months, the highway is fully open and takes you to plenty of hiking trails and outdoor adventures.

Of course, you can have an amazing day without even getting out of your car. There's plenty to see on the road.

The route winds past the banks of the Nooksack River, old-growth forests, waterfalls, and small logging communities.

This route includes some of the most photographed scenery in the Pacific Northwest.

Along the way, you can stop at viewpoints, picnic areas, and the picturesque Silver Lake Park.

The Glacier Ranger Station is also a wonderful place to stop. It was built in 1938, and not much about it has changed.

Eventually, you'll reach Heather Meadows, an incredibly scenic area all on its own...

... and your journey ends at the base of Mount Baker, a 10,781-foot volcano.

Find Picture Lake if you're into photography -- it boasts a beautiful mirrored reflection of Mount Shuksan.

Taking the Mount Baker Scenic Byway at least once is a must for all Washingtonians.

You'll appreciate this beautiful state in a whole new way.
