The Small Town In Washington That’s One Of The Coolest In The U.S.

Take one walk through the quaint downtown area of La Conner, Washington and you'll believe in love at first sight. Located on the Swinomish Channel, it's really no wonder that this tiny town is often voted the most perfect place for a Washington weekend getaway.

But how much can such a small area have to offer, you might ask? More than you might think - La Conner is a small town with some impressively big amenities.

Originally known as Swinomish, La Conner was settled in May of 1867 by Alonzo Low.

In 1869, J.S. Conner bought the settlement's trading post and had the name changed to honor his wife, Louisa Ann Conner. The early settlers cultivated farm land and helped the town become a hub for steamers carrying passengers and freight from Seattle.

These days, La Conner is a quiet community that about 900 people call home.

The center of town is a historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

For a town of its size, you'll be surprised by the number of incredible dining options.

This is the view from the patio of Nell Thorn Restaurant & Pub, arguably one of the better restaurants in the entire state.

The charming and inviting Hellams Vineyard has a waterfront patio you can relax on while you enjoy your beverage.

They sell paninis, pizzas and cheese platters, and they're also family-friendly.

La Conner has some amazing shops, including Nasty Jack's Antiques.

The Rainbow Bridge is La Conner's most famous landmark.

It connects La Conner to Fidalgo Island.

Pioneer Park, a secluded waterfront space, offers great views of the Rainbow Bridge.

It's a beautiful place to go for a picnic or a nature walk.

From our rural dwellers to our city lovers, Washingtonians adore La Conner.

They host several annual festivals and events, and the town is a main stop during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, giving tourists ample time to fall in love with the little town on the Swinomish Channel.

Clearly, La Conner is one of Washington's most charming small towns. If you've never been, make 2017 the year you visit.
