It's always nice when we can give summer a proper goodbye here in Washington. Few states are as beautiful as Washington is, and especially in the fall. We've still got a beautiful, colorful Washington autumn ahead of us, and there are plenty of places in our beautiful state that shine their brightest in autumn. If you're looking for a little escape before winter, here are some of the best places to visit in Washington state in the fall!

1. Lake Wenatchee State Park

Lake Wenatchee is one of the most ruggedly beautiful parts of our state. And although summers in this area can be pretty hectic, the crowds thin out by early October, and all you're left with is scenery like this.

2. Winthrop and the Methow Valley

It's no secret that Winthrop is a fantastic place to visit in any season, both for its Old West vibes and close proximity to nature. And the surrounding Methow Valley often receives national attention for its autumn hues.

3. Washington Park Arboretum (Seattle)

The Washington Park Arboretum is a quiet, peaceful little sanctuary in Seattle's Madison Park neighborhood. It's incredibly vibrant in the fall, especially at the Japanese Gardens.

4. Mount Rainier National Park

You might think of Mount Rainier National Park as a summertime destination -- and if you're hoping to go on a lengthy hike or camp in the park, that might be the ideal time to go. But every fall, this rugged terrain showcases fall foliage so colorful that it rivals the beauty of the summer wildflowers.

5. Leavenworth

Like most large events in Washington this year, Leavenworth's Oktoberfest and other events and festivals are canceled this year. However, we assure you that you do not need them to have a beautiful time in this charming little Bavarian village. The fall foliage here is unreal.

6. Manito Park (Spokane)

If you live in Eastern Washington, you owe it to yourself to pay a visit to Spokane's Manito Park before the end of autumn. This 90-acre public park looks especially stunning this time of year.

7. Whatcom Falls Park (Bellingham)

Located just outside the city of Bellingham, Whatcom Falls Park is a popular recreation space for locals and tourists alike. And this time of year, it is positively radiant.
