Small town living may not be for everyone, but most of us can agree that hanging out in the right small town can be pretty great. If you're looking for a change of scenery this summer, spend a little quality time in some of the small towns Washingtonians hold most dear. There's a lot to love about these 11 places.

1. Port Townsend

It's nearly impossible not to fall in love with Port Townsend the first time you see it. This charming Victorian village has amazing architecture, picturesque parks, enticing restaurants and shops in its waterfront setting. There are also some fun festivals here every year, such as Taste of Port Townsend and the Rhody Festival.

2. Winthrop

The Methow Valley shows off Washington's unique and diverse beauty, and Winthrop pays homage to the Old West in the most picturesque setting. Between the summer festivities and the balloon festival in March, there's always something to do here.

3. Republic

Speaking of Old West towns, Republic was founded by gold prospectors in the late 19th century and still has the look of an old mining town. Located in the remote Ferry County, it's surrounded by natural beauty and popular with fossil hunters.

4. Poulsbo

Have you ever been to Norway? Poulsbo is definitely the next best thing, and this little spot on the Kitsap Peninsula is a beloved part of Western Washington.

5. Newport

It's easy to overlook this charming town on the Idaho border, but those who do discover it tend to adore it. Due to its local railroad history, there are a lot of local historic landmarks, and the Pend Oreille County Museum is a great way to learn about local history.

6. Edison

Located in the beautiful (and underrated) Skagit County, Edison is an old timber town that has been remade by artists and artisans, always stocked with delicious places to eat and shop for local food. The population of this place might only be 133, but you'll never be bored.

7. La Conner

Anyone who has ever been to La Conner will tell you how charming it is. This "love at first sight" town is located on the Swinomish Channel, and it has just enough amenities to keep you entertained while maintaining its intimate feel.

8. Friday Harbor

The San Juan Islands are definitely the crown jewels of Washington State, and Friday Harbor is one of the most delightful towns on Earth. Between the shops, eateries and galleries downtown, the wine at the San Juan VIneyards (an old schoolhouse property) and the Roche Harbor Resort, it's an ideal place for a getaway... and it's even better to call it home.

9. Prosser

We know what you're thinking... Prosser? But those that have spent some time here know how underrated this little Benton County city really is. It's basically the birthplace of the Washington wine industry, but even if you don't drink vino, you'll enjoy the historic downtown area, tasty food and quirky shops.

10. Sequim

Not only is it a waterfront community on the Olympic Peninsula, but for part of the year, Sequim is covered in beautiful lavender. It's really no wonder it was once named the Best Northwestern Small Town by USA Today.

11. Leavenworth

We know we've given a lot of love to Leavenworth already, but it truly might be the most adored town in the state. Beautiful, relaxing and pleasant in any season, it's ideal for romantic getaways, family vacations and even solo adventures. This Bavarian village is sure to steal your heart.
