There's something about fall in Virginia that's impossible not to love. Cool, crisp temperatures invite us to get outdoors and enjoy all that the season promises: fresh apple cider, pumpkin patches to explore, and an enchanting display of fall foliage. This ephemeral time of year is one to embrace and to help you do just that, we've planned the perfect fall weekend getaway in Virginia. We'll start with a day of apple picking at Carter Mountain Orchard followed by a stay at a nearby cabin with gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains framed by autumn colors. So pack your bags -- adventure awaits!
Our beautiful fall weekend getaway in Virginia starts with a family-friendly favorite: Carter Mountain Orchard. Just a quick drive from downtown Charlottesville, this beautiful farm offers seasonal fruit picking, activities, and a delicious farm store.
If it's your first visit, you'll definitely want to engage in some good old-fashioned apple-picking. A handful of varieties grow on the farm, so you never know which delicious apples you'll get to sample.
After picking some delicious fruit, be sure to stop by the farm store and try a few homemade cider donuts.
Bold Rock Cider also has a taproom on the mountain, so those over 21 can enjoy another delicious apple product.
After your day at Carter Mountain, you'll be ready to check into your accommodation for the night. Tim's Cabin is an authentic log cabin boasting views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the fall, the surrounding fall foliage is nothing short of inspiring.
Step inside, and you'll find a lovingly restored home made of beautiful white pine.
The cabin can technically sleep four people with a queen-sized bed and a pull-out couch; however, it's most comfortable for just two guests.
Perhaps the best part of all is the view you'll enjoy right from the porch.
So whether you love all things autumn or are simply looking for a quick trip with a loved one, you'll be glad you opted for this fall weekend getaway!
