Not a Skier? This Virginia Snow Tubing Spot Is Just as Much Fun

I first learned to ski at Wintergreen Resort when I was around five years old. It was an exhilarating, fun experience, but I'll admit that I don't quite consider myself a skier. Fortunately, skiing isn't the only way to zoom down a mountain. This winter, I invite you to consider a trip to Wintergreen, not necessarily for skiing, but to try their ever-popular snow tubing hill.

Wintergreen is one of Virginia's premier ski destinations, offering travelers throughout the Southeast the chance to experience an impressive terrain park. It's perhaps most famous, though, for its breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Many folks opt to visit Wintergreen for the experience of being fully in the mountains. And in recent years, snow tubing has become arguably just as popular as skiing.

One of the things that makes snow tubing so appealing is that it's truly an activity for all ages. Children as young as six can enjoy racing down the mountain, and there's even a fun activity area called Ridgely's Fun Park for those ages three to five.

So how does snow tubing at Wintergreen work, exactly? You'll want to select a date and time that works best for you and your crew. Tickets are available online only, and cover an hour and fifteen minutes of tubing time. On the day of your adventure, you'll want to dress warmly, ideally in waterproof layers. Please note that loose clothing, like scarves, is not permitted.

And now, the adventure begins! Get ready to tackle The Plunge, Virginia's longest snowtubing hill, at an incredible speed. The hill measures three football fields long and ten stories high, ensuring an adrenaline-pumping adventure. Plus, tubing is a more approachable activity than skiing. As stated on the website, it's "all thrills and chills without the spills." You'll love watching that stunning mountain scenery zoom by as you race down the mountain at speeds of up to 30 MPH.

When you're ready to do it all again, there's a convenient conveyor belt to get you back to the top of The Plunge. The real challenge? See how many times you can make it down the hill during your allotted tubing slot!

And while the tubing hill can get crowded, there are 10 dedicated lanes available, so things move quickly. If you'd like to avoid the rush, try to plan your visit on a weekday outside of major holidays. After your snowy adventure, head to Fire and Frost for a mouthwatering wood-fired pizza or homemade breakfast.
