We like to think that our small state of Vermont has some of the best small towns in America, and according to Architectural Digest, Stowe, Vermont, is ranked on their list as the sixth best small town in the U.S. And for good reason too. Stowe is famous for its top-notch ski resort, quaint and lovely small downtown, and stunning natural landscapes. With countless places and natural gems to explore in the surrounding area, it's hard to find another place quite like Stowe. Let's take a closer look at what makes Stowe one of the best small towns in the U.S.
1. Natural Scenery
Stowe immediately impresses any visitor with its natural splendor, from bucolic rolling hills to quintessential farmhouses and small-town churches and barns.
2. Skiing and Snowboarding
Stowe Mountain Resort offers some of the best skiing and riding on the East Coast. You'll find a great selection of varied terrain, parks, glades, and state-of-the-art facilities, including their elegant ski village.
3. Downtown Stowe
Strolling down Main Street in Stowe is a lovely little excursion. The quaint downtown is full of little shops and restaurants and Shaw's General Stowe, which is pictured above.
4. Bingham Falls
Vermont is well-known for swimming holes and waterfalls, and there's no better combination of the two than at Bingham Falls in Stowe. Beautiful deep natural swimming holes and a large and sweeping waterfall can be found at this beloved spot.
5. Von Trapp Family Lodge
Trapp Family Lodge, the former residence of the Austrian family of which the Sound of Music portrays, is now an inn and lodge located in the pastoral and gorgeous fields of Stowe. The hills are truly alive with the sound of music at the Trapp Family estate.
