Here’s How You Can Avoid The Crowds When You Visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers stunning views and peaceful trails, especially around Newfound Gap, with tips to avoid crowds by visiting during weekdays or the offseason.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee (well, kind of) is one of the most frequently visited places in the U.S. National Parks system, and for good reason. This stunning park is actually shared between North Carolina and Tennessee and is named for the beautiful and ethereal fog that frequently surrounds the mountains and offers a "smoky" appearance. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid the crowds when you visit this popular national park. Looking for a great hike without all the people around? You're in luck!
Despite its stunning mountain views, Newfound Gap is actually the lowest point of elevation in the mountain ridge. It's also the lowest passable drive through the park.
Newfound Gap Road is surrounded by several trails that will offer respite from the crowds. These peaceful trails are less frequented than some areas of the park though they are just as beautiful.
Timing your visit can also be a helpful way to avoid crowds. Visiting on the weekday or during the offseason can help ensure more privacy as you explore the stunning scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains.
