Vail and Aspen are arguably the most iconic, stunning ski destinations in the US, but if you're a bit intimidated by the crowds or high-altitude slopes—I'll admit that I am!—you'll be happy to hear those aren't your only options. There are ski resorts throughout the country that welcome everyone, from beginners to pros. And they're arguably just as beautiful.

I love the Homestead, and I've been lucky enough to visit in almost every season. It's a breathtakingly beautiful resort in the mountains of western Virginia, and it has a beloved ski school for those who'd like to brush up on their winter sport skills. If you value an uncrowded skiing experience, the Omni Homestead Resort offers you the perfect chance to get away from the masses. 5. Pat's Peak, New Hampshire

Open for skiing since 1963, Pat's Peak in Henniker was started by four brothers who loved winter activities but not waiting in long lift lines. In fact, it's even considered the best teaching mountain in all of New Hampshire. For more information, be sure to check out their ski and ride teaching programs.
