10 Small Towns In Tennessee Where Everyone Knows Your Name

It wouldn't be the south if we didn't find you a couple teensy towns where you know everyone at church. Here were our parameters: The town couldn't exceed 10,000 folks, and the people had to be solid depictions of our pretty little Tennessee southland. Curious where we went? 10. Adams - 637

Home of the famed Bell Witch, Adams is a Robertson County gem that will appeal to your inner history nerd. The small town boasts a number of beautiful parks and the Adams Quilt Trail, so you'll have the chance to enjoy ever tiny second.

9. Etowah - 3,488

Located in McMinn County, this lovely place is known as the Gateway to the Cherokee National Forest. It was founded in 1906 with a history bent on its location as a Louisville & Nashville Railroad Depot.

8. Rogersville - 4,397

Hey there, Hawkins County! Rogersville was settled in 1775 by none other than Davy Crockett's grandparents. Crazy small world, isn't it?

7. Erwin - 6,048

Beautiful, beautiful beautiful. Erwin came across its name by way of an accident with the local post office and has a bit of a notorious past regarding an elephant. Cough. We've all moved forward, guys!

6. Dandridge - 2,849

Known as the SECOND oldest town in Tennessee, right behind our #4 spot, Dandridge is right on Douglas Lake and is protected largely by a local saddle dam.

5. Townsend - 450

Tiniest of the tiny, hey? There are three "gateways" to the great mountains of the east, but Townsend is our favorite. It is known to locals as "The Peaceful Side of the Smokies." We keep it in the family, here!

4. Jonesborough - 5,138

It's the oldest town in the state, and proud of it. You'd think there would be more folks flocking to such a reputable spot, but its kept its hometown roots and stayed tiny as all get out. We love it that way!

3. Ripley - 8,385

Somehow Ripley seems to be the hometown of many a Tennessean. No, really - we hear from a TON of Ripley-ites. Who would've thought, with such a sweet little spot?

2. Tellico Plains - 900

We've almost cracked a thousand folks, but Tellico Plains is still keeping its east Tennessee roots small and deep. It's a gorgeous town, and you're sure to fall absolutely in love.

Home of the RC Cola and Moon Pie Festival in the summa' time, Bell Buckle is a sweet little place full of Tennessee character and down home southern pride.
