This Beautiful Byway In South Dakota Is Perfect For A Scenic Drive

There's no better way to relax and enjoy South Dakota's natural beauty than by taking a scenic drive. Take a look at this byway, then hop in your car and go!

The Wildlife Loop State Scenic Byway is located in Custer State Park. It's just 18 miles long, but you'll want to allow yourself about an hour to complete it.

This scenic byway is a great way to view wildlife, without even getting out of your car. You'll certainly see tons of buffalo - the park is home to around 1,300 of these majestic animals.

Witnessing these huge creatures up close is amazing. Remember that they're wild animals, though, and they can become aggressive. You'll definitely want some photos, but give these guys plenty of room.

During the spring months, you'll also see baby buffalo.

Sometimes, the wildlife even stops traffic!

The burros that inhabit Custer State Park are feral, and they're called "Begging Burros," because they do just that. They'll often approach your car, begging for food.

You're not supposed to feed the Begging Burros, but sometimes they're so cute that you just can't help it.

On a warm summer day, the pronghorn lounge around in the meadows.

Keep your eyes peeled for other wildlife, including wild turkeys.

You'll likely see prairie dogs, too. The Prairie Dog Towns are home to hundreds of these adorable, furry guys.

Quite a few coyotes call this place home - if you're lucky you'll spot this elusive creature.

The deer are much more shy than the buffalo and pronghorn, but you'll likely see at least a few.
