You’ll Want To Plan A Day Trip To South Dakota’s Magical Butterfly House

There are some places you visit that just seem like they popped right out of a fairy tale. Butterfly House & Aquarium in Sioux Falls is just that kind of place. Stop by and be prepared to be thoroughly enchanted by this magical place.

The Sertoma Butterfly House is located in Sioux Falls at 4320 South Oxbow Avenue.

When you step inside, you're transported into an enchanting world of butterflies. This 3,600 square foot garden is simply delightful. It's filled with tropical flowers and is kept at a constant temperature of 80 degrees.

Follow along the paths, and you'll be surrounded by 800 or so free-flying butterflies.

The butterflies here hail from all over the world - Central and South America, Australia, Asia and Africa.

The butterflies aren't captured in the wild - they're farm grown. When they form their chrysalises, they're sent to the Butterfly House, where they emerge in their new home.

While this place is appropriate for all ages, you'll love to watch the faces of children as they discover these beautiful creatures.

You'll often get an up-close look at these graceful butterflies as they land right on you.

The butterflies are waiting to meet you!

Don't forget to stop by the aquarium; it's part of your admission. You can pet a stingray...

...and see lots of tropical fish and even sharks.

You can visit the Butterfly House & Aquarium year-round. It's open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Sunday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Admission is $7.00 for kids 3-12; $10 for adults; $9 for seniors.
