7 Places In South Dakota You Thought Only Existed In Your Imagination
Take a glimpse into seven places in South Dakota where life is more beautiful than in your wildest imagination. We know you thought these were only in your head so you're not going to believe these places actually exist.
1. Spearfish Canyon
Spearfish Canyon is a narrow and deep gorge located in western South Dakota. It is a nature lover's dream. This canyon is filled with drive by scenic views, hiking trails, waterfalls and so much more. This is an absolute must-visit.
2. Badlands National Park
This park combines a stunning mix of buttes, spires and prairie grass to create unique scenic views you never knew existed. Those who visit say that no photos can do this landscape justice.
3. South Dakota prairie
A wide portion of the state is flat and covered by diverse grasses. These prairies are equally as stunning as national parks in the state and are a large part of what makes South Dakota beautiful.
4. Sand Lake Wetland Management District
This wildlife refuge is a safe haven and breeding ground for all kind of water fowl. Visitor activities on the refuge include hunting, fishing, photography, and lessons about the environment.
5. The Black Hills
This small South Dakota mountain range is home to wildlife, the gold rush and so much history. There are endless areas of the Black Hills to explore, including climbing Harney Peak, the United States' highest peak east of the Rockies.
6. This perfect charming farm.
We all have that dream of the perfect farm and charming farmhouse. That dream looks a little different for everyone but mine looks similar to this farm in South Dakota. Jaw dropping, foggy sunrises and being able to see wide open spaces for miles are key components of any dreamy farm.
7. Mickelson Trail
This trail runs over old railroad bridges and tunnels, straight through the heart of the Black Hills. At one point, the trail even runs through a 40 foot long tunnel that was entirely blasted through rock. Mickelson Trail connects the towns of Deadwood and Edgemont.
With this short list, we know we didn't get them all. What are your favorite fairytale-esque places in South Dakota?
