The Quirkiest Town in Rhode Island That You’ll Absolutely Love

To outsiders, all small coastal towns in Rhode Island might appear the same. Salt box architecture, sea grass blowing in the breeze, tourists riding bicycles - it can blend together after a while. Look a bit closer though, and you'll find that each town has its own unique character. This is one of our favorites!

At first glance, Charlestown is a quintessential Rhode Island seaside town. Dig below the surface a bit and you'll find that this town stands out from the many others of its type.

The beaches are beautiful, as are the seaside homes. The town encompasses around 60 square miles and has approximately 8,000 residents.

The town is perhaps best known for its annual seafood festival, where you'll have the chance to get silly with a dancing crustacean if you so desire.

Charlestown also has two great campsites - Burlingame State Park and Charlestown Breachway. There's nothing better than camping with a water view!

The town's Ninigret Salt Marsh is a fascinating natural feature - and environmentally important.

The town's must unique feature is certainly the Fantastic Umbrella Factory, a wacky spot with a garden, retail store, and cafe.

You'll even find quirky animals wandering the spot's grounds, including emus!

Get in touch with your nerdy side while you're in town at the Frosty Drew Observatory, where you can gaze up at the sky and ask all the questions you want of the friendly staff.
