When thinking about unique roadside attractions in Rhode Island, some first thoughts are probably the abandoned milk can, or maybe the Mr. Potato Heads scattered about. While those are definitely pretty unique sights to behold in the state, there is a place even more elaborate! You'll hopefully recognize it from summers past.
The Fantastic Umbrella Factory is found in the charming beach town of Charlestown.
Not only is this collection of quirky boutiques and gardens unique, it's also extremely whimsical.
From emus roaming around the property and a lively bunch of farm animals, to gorgeous sculptures, you simply never know what you'll discover here.
Stores include an imported gifts outlet known as Small Axe Productions, The General Store, Block Print Graphics, and even a shop for Henna Body Art.
Of course no visit to The Umbrella Factory is complete without also visiting the two vintage shops known as Axiom, focusing on eyeglasses, and Frills, which sells clothing from the 60s-90s.
Be sure to also stroll through The Umbrella Factory Gardens to stock up on fancy plants before settling in to Small Axe Cafe for lunch.
There's truly no place quite like The Fantastic Umbrella Factory! Whether you're just passing through on your way to the beach, or want to plan an entire day trip around this place, you likely won't forget your visit.
You can find The Fantastic Umbrella Factory at 4820 Old Post Road in Charlestown. Visit their website at www.fantasticumbrellafactory.com for more information and seasonal hours.
