A Drive Down Rhode Island’s Loneliest Road Will Take You Miles And Miles Away From It All

Finding some solitude is a true challenge, especially when the warmer weather arrives with tourists. This one route is perfect if you need a quiet escape.

U.S. Route 44 is a long and lovely route running through New England.

Known locally to Rhode Islanders as Putnam Pike, this forested route makes for a gorgeous and relaxing drive.

This trip passes through some of the most northern parts of the state including the charming town of Chepachet.

You can take it all the way to Plymouth, MA, or head all the way into Connecticut and even New York.

You'll see farmland, forest, and many abandoned old structures along your quiet drive.
