This Day Trip To Narragansett Is One Of The Best You Can Take In Rhode Island
Narragansett is a charming seaside town in Rhode Island, perfect for a day trip with its historic sites, scenic trails, and fine dining.
Narragansett has been a top vacation destination for Rhode Islanders since the late 1800s. And while the vibe has certainly changed over the years, its beauty and charm is timeless. You don't even need to spend the night to have a wonderful time – this is a perfect day trip destination.
Narragansett is a delightful little seaside town in Washington County near South Kingstown.
And while it's a quiet, peaceful place now, this historic village has a wild past.
It started in 1894, when a group of wealthy summer visitors established the Point Judith Country Club just south of the Pier area.
For years, visitors would flock here from all over New England from early June until late August for gambling, parties, and fun on the beach.
These days, Narragansett is a lot quieter. And while it's still a top summer attraction, it's beautiful here in any season.
For many, a stop at The Towers is a must. Once the gate to Narragansett Pier Casino, The Towers now host weddings and events (when conditions allow) and serve as an iconic landmark.
If you're up for a nature walk, enjoy one of the hiking trails in the area.
The Black Point Trail is an easy 2.1-mile trek, offering both beautiful scenery and adventurous exploration.
If you get hungry, enjoy a little seaside fine dining at the Coast Guard House.
This converted lifesaving station was originally built in 1888. It was converted into a restaurant in the 1960s, and it's now one of the town's top dining spots.
The food at the Coast Guard House is quite tasty, ranging from fresh, local seafood to pasta and hearty entrees like filet mignon.
It's also the perfect place to sit and have a cocktail or two by the bay.
Of course, most people who make a day trip to Narragansett just hang out at the beach.
And we really can't say we blame them. Narragansett Town Beach is delightful.
Have you been to Narragansett lately? Perhaps a refreshing day trip is in order.
