You can't beat Oregon summers. We're blessed with warm (but usually not too warm) sunny days, low humidity, and an outdoor playground that's brimming with adventure. There's so much to explore, from sparkling lakes and rivers to wildflower fields and tower forests.
Some of my favorite Oregon summer activities include swimming in lakes and rivers, visiting regional amusement parks, chilling at the beach, rafting, canoeing, and hiking through the trees or along sparkling streams. Everybody's got their dream list of Oregon summer bucket list items. Here we share ours.
Just two hours west of Portland and situated between Manzanita and Cannon Beach (two other must-visit spots on the coast), Short Sands Beach delights with a gorgeous, wide stretch of beach accessible via a short but lovely walk through the forest of Oswald West State Park.
Kids young and old will love a day at this classic destination in Sellwood. From roller coasters, the big slide, and other thrilling rides to mini golf and roller skating, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
Crater Lake is one of Oregon's most famous destinations and summer is the perfect time to visit.
Visiting this iconic amusement park is a summer tradition in our family. We enjoy the shady, storybook-inspired path and various rides. However, we love the log ride the best.
Explore one of the largest temperate coastal sand dunes on Earth. Even better, this sandy playground sits right on the ocean.
Oregon is ripe with fabulous swim spots. Some of the best can be found along the Sandy River, such as around Dodge Park.
At Wildlife Safari, the animals roam free while you drive through the park to get an up-close view.
Canoeing or rafting on the river is a fabulous way to spend a day.
Hike up to the top of Multnomah Falls for a spectacular view.
Oregon is a land of wonder with so many hidden gems to explore! If your summer adventures include a drive, don't forget to stock up on car-friendly snacks for the drive there — but you're also sure to find excellent eateries along the way as well.
