This New 4.8 Mile Street Car System In Oklahoma Just Opened And You’ll Want To Ride It
A new 4.8-mile urban streetcar system has opened in Oklahoma City, providing an easy and affordable way to navigate downtown.
A new 4.8 mile urban streetcar system just opened in the capital city and it's the coolest thing ever. OKC Streetcar construction began in 2017 and just opened for riders in December 2018. It's the easiest way to get around downtown and you'll definitely want to ride it. Keep scrolling to get all the details.
OKC Streetcar is a $131-million capital project that's also known as MAPS 3 streetcar. You can buy a single ride pass, a 24-hour pass, a month pass or an annual pass. A 24-hour pass only costs $3.
It services the downtown Oklahoma City area connecting the City's central core with the EMBARK network. Modern streetcars share the road with other automobiles, so be on the lookout for them while driving in downtown OKC.
The Downtown Loop serves 22 stops and the Bricktown Loop serves 9 stops.
Some of the key destination stops include: OKC National Memorial & Museum, Myriad Gardens, Scissortail Park, the ballpark, and arena.
The color palette of the streetcars is inspired by Oklahoma’s Redbud trees, Bermuda green grass, and Clear Sky blue. Redbud is the primary brand color.
Once inside the streetcar you can hang onto the handles or poles while standing up. They also have priority seating and the car is ADA compliant.
All stops are announced by audio and visual messages, so it's very easy to know when to exit the streetcar.
And remember, if parkings in downtown, always park inside the white lines so your car doesn't get hit.
You can also check out their Facebook page or website for more information, including operating hours and pricing.
A great place to visit while in the downtown OKC area is the Myriad Botanical Gardens. It is the ultimate place to go for an epic outdoor experience. You can enjoy over 17 acres of lush gardens, an urban park, an indoor conservatory, waterfalls, and much more.
