The Overlooked Destination In Oklahoma You Should Visit Before It’s Too Popular

With 53 state parks, Oklahoma certainly has plenty to choose from when it comes to outdoor recreation. Here's an underappreciated park that's a little less crowded than others. Visit it now, before it becomes too popular!

McGee Creek State Park is located in Atoka, at the edge of the Ouachita Mountain Range. This 2,600-acre park offers tons of year-round recreation.

You'll find 25 miles of trails in the park. Enjoy mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking. Some trails are as short as a mile; others as long as 20 miles.

McGee Reservoir has 64 miles of shoreline and covers 3,350 acres. It's perfect for boating, fishing and waterskiing.

Put your boat in the water for an afternoon of fishing, or drop your line right from the dock. The lake is stocked with large and smallmouth bass, catfish, perch and crappie.

Stay overnight in one of 200 primitive camping spots, or choose paved RV sites at the Buster Hight Area or the Potapo Area, where you'll find hot showers, electricity, dump stations, and playgrounds. Camping is available year-round here.

If you'd prefer, you can stay in one of the eight rustic camping huts along the lake. These little huts are equipped with fireplaces, bunk beds, air conditioning and back porches with views of the lake.
