The Remote Winery Near Columbus That’s Picture Perfect For A Day Trip

You might be surprised to learn that just a little bit southeast of Columbus there is a charming relaxing place where the sun shines brightly and the wine pours smoothly. That place is the Rockside Winery and Vineyard. You can visit this local winery and enjoy their wines right among the grape vines that they came from. Read on to learn more!

Rockside Winery is located directly off Route 33 only about 35 minutes from central Columbus.

The address is 2363 Lancaster-Newark Rd. NE, Lancaster, OH 43130.

The winery is open to visitors Tuesday-Thursday from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

If you're planning to go on a Friday, make sure you check their online calendar. Friday evenings are occasionally reserved for private events.

At the winery, you can enjoy the scenery and wine tastings at $1.00 per taste.

The staff are super friendly, they will make you feel comfortable and share their extensive knowledge of the wines.

The winery was opened in 2007 and the tasting room was added four years later.

The land has 4.5 acres of Vinifera, French-American Hybrids, and Native American vines. Grape varieties include Cabernet Franc, Vidal Blanc, Chambourcin, Niagara, and Corot Noir.

Ohio is difficult climate for growing vines, which makes a unique finished product.

Rockside's wines are made in small batches from mostly Ohio-grown grapes. Some grapes that just cannot be grown in the local climate are brought in from California.

The beautiful tasting room is a great place to relax and taste the wines.

You can also sit outside on the patio and look over the beautiful rolling hills of Fairfield County.

Rockside also hosts live music and other fun events.

Yes, there is a Happy Hour! Thirsty Thursday Happy Hour takes place every Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Stop by for $4 glasses of wine and 50% off a variety of small appetizers, including bread with dipping oil, cheese, fruit, Italian meat plates, hummus served with fresh vegetables, and an antipasto plate. Local craft beer is also available on tap for $4.50.

While visiting the winery, you are encouraged to stroll among the vines.

The staff will be happy to tell you about the vineyards, caring for the grapes, and the winemaking process.
