It's part of a 465-acre preserve where rugged foothill trails meet grassy prairies, and it's home to a stunning array of rare and endangered plant species like plains muhlenbergia grass. A visit to Buzzardroost Rock offers not only an opportunity for a challenging hike but also a front-row seat to one of Ohio’s most spectacular vistas.

Altogether, Adams County is home to approximately 27,477 residents across 586 square miles, resulting in a population density of just 47 people per square mile. This region is covered in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and it feels absolutely untamed. This landscape has inspired locals for generations, resulting in historically significant monuments like the Great Serpent Mound.

To hike Buzzardroost Rock, allow approximately two hours for the hike. The hike is a bit challenging, but it's worth the effort to experience one of Ohio's most striking natural wonders. Unfortunately, you'll have to leave four-legged hiking buddies at home, as the park isn't dog-friendly.

Managed by The Nature Conservancy and the Cincinnati Museum Center, the Edge of Appalachia Preserve System spans over 20,000 acres of biologically diverse terrain. It's home to over 27 miles of hiking trails, and 4.6 of those will take you to Buzzardroost Rock. The trail winds through dense forests, across rocky foothills, and eventually opens up to sweeping prairie lands. On each leg of the journey, you'll find yourself drinking in stunning views. The landscape is especially magical as dusk approaches.
