The Unique City In North Dakota That Is So Much More Than Your Average College Town
Ah, Fargo: perhaps the single most well-known town in an otherwise quiet state. Made infamous by an indie film of the same name in the 1990s and a later spin-off TV series, Fargo is a quiet college town that's so much more than "just" some college town in North Dakota. It's a place with a rich history, vibrant shops, excellent eateries, and so much more. So, while some folks might find themselves here because they're attending North Dakota State, others are here for the town itself, which is perfect - there's plenty to do.
When lots of folks think about Fargo, this is what they have in mind:
But, come on. Sure, we're a college town - but we're so much more than just a college town from a cult classic film (which is, admittedly, an excellent film... even if we don't talk like that and the movie didn't take place here).
Fargo, North Dakota, is a city in Cass County with a population of around 135,000.
While in other, more populous places, this might just be called a "small town," it's definitely a city by North Dakotan standards. In fact, it's the largest city in the state.
But it's also a college town. Wandering around and seeing folks in NDSU merch is not at all uncommon.
It's a popular point of pride for the folks of Fargo, but it's not all we are. We're a lot more than some college town with nothing else going on for it. It might be a small place, but it's got a big list of things to do.
The Red River Zoo is one of our most famous attractions, and on any given day, you can see all sorts of fascinating, exotic critters. Lindenwood Park, the FARGODOME, and lots of other places are must-dos for locals and visitors, alike.
Downtown, you'll find an assortment of shops and eateries, all of which are worthy of a day trip (or longer).
The best thing about college towns, in my opinion, is the shopping and food are always to die for - and Fargo's no exception.
With theatres, museums, restaurants, and so much more, Fargo is a whole experience.
So, sure, come for the college... but stay for Fargo!
Have you ever been to Fargo? Is it more than just another college town in North Dakota to you?
