North Dakota’s Most Naturally Beautiful Town Will Enchant You In The Best Way Possible

There is a town in western North Dakota that is like a gateway into another world. The natural surroundings of this place are breathtaking. It is a delightful little town to visit on its own, but it is the scenery that makes it great. If you haven't been here yet, this is one for the bucket list!

Killdeer, North Dakota is a small town in the western region of the state.

It was founded in 1914 and today has a population of just over 750 residents.

Killdeer has all the charm of a small town, but when people come here they are usually blown away by the areas surrounding it.

The Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge is right next to Killdeer. The scenic lake views are beautiful from here.

Killdeer is also famous for the Killdeer Mountains, one of the only mountainous areas of North Dakota. These towering, rugged hills overlook fields as far as the eye can see to the south of town.

These mountains hold mystifying properties and even urban legends, making them both naturally pretty and fascinating.

Killdeer is also the gateway into the beginning of the badlands at the Little Missouri State Park.

The Little Missouri River, which winds through and helped create the valleys of the badlands through natural erosion, branches off of the Missouri River and Lake Sakakawea right next to Killdeer. The colors of these "painted" canyons will easily enchant you.

Killdeer certainly is in an amazing place with a little bit of everything that makes North Dakota so beautiful. The river valley, the breathtaking badlands, gently rolling fields of the prairie, and more - all around one town!

Killdeer is one of many towns in North Dakota that have a slice of natural paradise around them. Here are some of the other towns in the Peace Garden State with stunning scenery.
