25 Signs You Went To A Small Town High School In North Carolina

High School is something most of us have experienced. And to be honest, no one really likes high school, which has led it to be a popular subject in movies, music, TV, and books. Well we all survived and made it through (whew) and can now look back on those strange and trying times with a smile because those little things that meant so much were all growing pains and crucial life experiences.

But going to a small high school is a completely different experience than a large high school. My high school was in the middle of a cornfield, and as the second graduating class, I can tell you I know from experience just how different it is.

You should be able to relate to these twenty-five things.

1. Freshman year wasn't that scary because you already knew almost everyone in your class.

2. You had that one teacher who didn't like you because your parents were a troublemaker in their class.

3. And that one teacher who loved you because they either taught your parents or were friends with them in high school.

4. The whole concept of the football quarterback dating the prom queen was actually pretty true.

6. Agriculture class was a big deal.

7. If you did something scandalous on Saturday the whole student body knew about it Monday.

8. You could name everyone in your graduating class.

9. You might have just married your high school sweetheart.

10. Going to UNC or Duke was a big deal, and going out of state was an even bigger deal!

11.Visiting 'cities' on field trips was like entering a whole new world and left you craving 'city life.'

12. You pondered what it would be like to move away and be the new kid, this thought sometimes terrified you to no end. The 'new kids' who came to your high school were the prime source of gossip and stories until everyone figured them out.

13. You called those older than you ma'am and mister.

14. There was always that one troublemaker that was worse than anyone else...

15. And he likely led the group, and even the 'superiors' feared his wrath.

16. Joining various school sports teams wasn't too competitive.

17. Those who always wanted to get out more than likely never came back to your hometown and only return under certain circumstances.

18. Reunions aren't necessary because you still see most of your classmates around town.

19. Or talk to them on Facebook.

20. But you still have to have a reunion, how else will you see if those who left decide to show up?

21. You've learned that people grow and mature, but deep down, usually stay who they are...

22. You love the simplicity of your upbringing, and probably wouldn't change it.

23. Who else can say their graduation only lasted an hour?

24. Or that they've known their best friends since kindergarten?

25. And that they value knowing everyone and respecting everyone because growing up in a small town gives you a sense of humbleness you just can't find anywhere else.
