From Hitting the Slopes to Enjoying a Soak: How to Enjoy a Perfect Weekend in This Winter North Carolina Town
For a perfect winter getaway in North Carolina, you have to head to Beech Mountain where you can glide the slopes then finish off the day with a steamy soak.
There is a distinct feel that comes over me whenever I arrive in a ski resort town. There is an undeniable atmosphere of excited guests who are ready to hit the slopes and enjoy the cozy charm of a small mountain town. This was how I felt when I rounded the windy narrow roads and visited Beech Mountain. The ski resort was looming in the background dotted with rhythmic skiers bobbing down the trails. I knew the second we arrived that we found something special. So here is how you too can enjoy a perfect winter getaway in North Carolina.
The air was cool but the sun was out, this was the first thing I noticed as we parked on the hill for a day at Beech Mountian. Being high in the mountains offers fantastic views from just about anywhere you go in town but the crown jewel of this small mountain oasis is, of course, Beech Mountain Ski Resort.
This is the first place you want to go as soon as the gates open. With multiple slopes, you can easily take advantage of some winter fun all day long on either skis or a snowboard. This is the highest ski resort east of the Mississippi, so just like in town, expect some fantastic views.
If you fancy a snowboard over a fist full of poles then you can venture into the Meadows Terrain Park which offers grind rails, half pipes, and more to take your trip to the extreme. Beech Mountain offers something for everyone from bunny trails to black diamonds, and if you don’t want to ski or snowboard, guests can take advantage of the snow tubing options as well.
Spending the day hitting the slopes can really work up an appetite. To satisfy your cravings, head across the street to the Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria. Grab yourself a warm pizza from the oven not just to fill your empty stomach but to fill your soul. The smell alone will lure you in; trust me, I am dreaming of it now.
The small town of Beech Mountain is a quaint high-altitude little village that I thoroughly enjoyed exploring. Take some time traversing the town roads and finding overlooks. We saw dozens of deer during the middle of the day in the quiet mountain neighborhoods. Once you finish up you will need a place to spend the night and for that, I know just the place.
Hidden within the forested mountainside is a spectacular A-frame cabin that is so nice it will definitely have you wanting to spend a week nestled into its cozy interior. This custom-built beauty makes good use of the views with unique windows and intriguing designs. Snuggle up in the living room near the fireplace after a long winter day outside, or curl up with a blanket and watch the stars from the bedroom.
To finish off the night, step outside one more time and sink your tired body into the warm and bubbly water of the hot tub on your own private back deck. The calm and still of a winter night surrounds you as you lay back your head and soak in the steaming water. Now that is a great way to end a day of winter fun, and when you stay the night, you can get up and do it all over again.
To get your tickets early before you hit the slopes make sure to visit the Beech Moutain Ski Resort website. To book a night stay at this dreamy Airbnb rental make sure you visit the Sky-High A-Frame Retreat page. If you are looking for an amazing winter getaway in North Carolina look no further than Beech Mountain.
Did you know that just down the road is also an abandoned Wizard of Oz theme park, well mostly abandoned. I guess you will just have to go when they open for their yearly event to find out.
