Discover 20 magical winter wonderland destinations across the U.S. that are best experienced under a fresh blanket of snow.
North Carolina is amazing for plenty of reasons: the scenery, the people, the culture, the things that make us so unique - it's also REALLY great at celebrating Christmas. Throughout the state, you're destined to find a parade, festival of lights, or even a town decorated to the nines. Yet, in North Carolina exists 'Christmas Town U.S.A,' and McAdenville (aside from being the most beautiful and best winter town in North Carolina) has earned this title for good reason.
Since 1956, the quiet mill town with a little over 600 residents turns into a Christmas town straight from a movie.
So what makes Christmas Town U.S.A. so special? I'd like to think it's due to the fact that every single residence in the town gets involved. From trees gleaming with Christmas lights, decorations on all the buildings, and each house decorated in its own unique fashion, Christmas Town U.S.A. belongs on everyone's bucket list of places to visit in North Carolina in winter .
This is more than just driving through the neighborhood to check out the Christmas lights — this is each house displaying its own unique spirit through lights and decorations. It really is like you've walked straight into a Hallmark Christmas movie.
Your journey through Christmas Town consists of a 1.3-mile route.
Traffic can get particularly heavy on the weekends, and some people prefer to simply walk through the town — afterall, why not when you're in the best winter wonderland town in North Carolina?! One of the most beautiful aspects is the pond, surrounded with twinkling trees that reflect beautifully off the water.
Once you're in the center of town, there's a life size nativity scene, life-size figures of carolers, over 200 wreaths, Santa and his reindeers, and bells and music throughout the town. The best part is it's free to experience all of this holiday magic. The annual tree lighting will take place Monday, December 2, 2019 starting around 5:00 p.m. There's also the Yule Log Ceremony which commemorates the original founders of Christmas Town: Mr. and Mrs. William James Pharr. The parade and ceremony take place Dec. 12th at 5:30 p.m. There's also the annual Christmas Town Festival and 5K run.
