Port Washington is one of the most underrated towns in Long Island, bursting with natural beauty and culture. I planned a trip here to see Nefesh Mountain, one of my favorite bands, at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater. This local theater is the heart of culture in the town, and it's surrounded by a thriving shopping and dining district, including La Petite Framboise, a classic French bistro that can compete with the best of the big city.

But you could easily spend all day here just exploring the area's natural beauty at Sands Point Preserve. The city is right by the water, which means you'll likely have stunning views wherever you go. I haven't been shopping here yet, but the scene sounds amazing, especially if you're shopping for food. There's a Japanese grocery on Main Street, and a farmers' market not far from it. The city has a fast-growing population and an all-season appeal, but it still maintains that small-town vibe that makes it great.
