6 Things That Make Ithaca, New York Perfect For A Romantic Day Trip

Ithaca offers scenic hikes, wineries, and state parks, making it a worthwhile destination in New York's Finger Lakes region.

Ithaca might not be first on your list of cities to visit in New York, but it's worth giving this Finger Lakes gem a chance if you're looking to book a trip upstate. There's no shortage of scenic hikes in this region, and there are a number of great restaurants, breweries, and wineries in the area as well. Here are a few of our favorite highlights in the Ithaca area.

1. Lucas Vineyards

Lucas Vineyards became the first vineyard on Cayuga Lake after the Lucas family moved to the 68-acre farm in Interlaken in 1974. Now the vineyard produces 26,000 cases of wine every year.

It's the perfect place to relax if you're looking for a fun stop in the Finger Lakes around 40 minutes from Ithaca.

2. Robert Treman State Park

This 1,110-acre state park in the Finger Lakes is one of the state's most famous, and for good reason. The park's gorge, Enfield Glen, is a hugely popular destination. And don't miss out on the 115-foot tall Lucifer Falls.

3. Cornell Botanic Gardens

The Cornell Botanic Gardens is one of the most beautiful areas that tourists should check out during a trip to Ithaca. Whether you're in the mood for a scenic gorge hike or a relaxing walk through the intricately designed gardens, this is the perfect destination if you want to spend a few hours in peace.

4. Taughannock Falls

Another Cayuga Lake hotspot is Taughannock Falls, a gorgeous waterfall with an incredible gorge trail. The state park of the same name has cabins overlooking Cayuga Lake, campsites, a marina, and a beautiful beach.

5. South Hill Cider

Drop by the tasting room at South Hill Cidery and try some of the most unique ciders you've ever had. They've got something for everyone.

6. Cascadilla Gorge Trail

This 1.3-miles trail connects downtown Ithaca to the Cornell University campus. But within minutes you'll feel like the city is miles and miles away.

If you're up for a little more exploration in the Finger Lakes region, head over to Seneca Lake for the day and explore Wagner Vineyards Estate Winery or Watkins Glen State Park.
